wikipedia says this was written in 1891, towards the end of the writing career of a british novelist. He wrote a considerable amount of books, and this feels like 19th century beach read. Trys to merge a weak story about an english hero into historical "facts" about the story of Cortez. Oddlyenough, he trys to justify Cortez's actions, which are appaling. The british writers in this era usually do not have much respect for the Spanish or French. Weak overall, it does purport to tell the story of Cortez, which is horrible, but astounding.

This is a great study guide for the hardcover book. It contains numerous maps, questions, and vocabulary lists, BUT do not order this if you think you've found a much cheaper version of the hardcover-that is not the case.
As I said in the title, this book is great but has one minor problem. Henty loved history, and many times he talks about the setting in history for between 3 and 7 pages. But all in all it is a really good book.
Please tell me if it's historical fiction or historical, but either way it's great! Thanks.😃😃😃😃😃 I recommend it to all.
Great historical fiction.
By Right Of Conquest is a historical novel that is well written. The main characters are invented but the people like Cortes and Montezuma are in it. The story takes place in Mexico city and the surrounding valley area. My 14 y/o son read it while we were traveling last week.
Since I am not an historian I cannot comment on the accuracy of Cortez' exploits in Mexico. However, the book was fascinating to read and, if factual, a double benefit for historical buffs. Well worth the time spent reading.
Read this for a class I was teaching. Great story and well written book. Some of the kids really liked it, and most did not. Said it was too long and too descriptive (boring). I thought it was a great historical novel that brought Cortez and the conquest of Mexico to life.
